Dwadasha stothra 2 : Aapadashira sthothra Verse 9

pUrNAnanyasukhOdbhAsi aMdasmitamadhIshituH |

gOviMdasya sadA chiNtyaM nityAnaNdapadapradaM|| 9 ||

Govinda – Krishna avatara – tells about all avatar of Narayana, god descended on earth

Govinda nirvachana –

  • In samskrita” gow” means earth; Govinda means one who descended on earth. It also depicts varaha avatara since varaha acquired bhoomi.
  • ” gow” means “gamala gatho” –one which is in movement. Water is also known as “gow”. Since matysa avatara and kUrma avatara were both in water “gow” depicts these two roopas as well.
  • ” gow” means heaven; “vindayati” means give back .Narasimha gave heaven back to Indira after defeating Hrinyakashyapu.
  • ” gow” means the destination which everyone must reach.
  • ” gow” means earth. It depicts vamana avatara. Vamana roopi bhagavantha took 3 steps from bali as a dhaana.
  • ” gow” means earth. Parusharama roamed around earth and culled kshatriyas.
  • ” gow” means arrow – the one which moves forward with the help of bow. Rama is one who used bow and arrow to destroy Ravana.
  • ” gow” means cowherd. It depicts Krishna.
  • ” gow” means knowledge. Veda-vangmaya. Sadhakaru. Govinda means veda-pratipadya.  Pashu also means veda.
  • ” gow” means one who gave knowledge to Devathas using prashantavidya – Buddha roopa.
  • ” gow” means one who reestablished knowledge / Vedadharma by destroying evil forces – kalki.
  • ” gow” means sunray. The one who resides in sun and gives light and heat to universe – Naryana.
  • ” gow” means hair. The one who has beautiful, thick, curly hair – Keshava.
  • ” gow” means eyes; which drinks in knowledge. Vamana roopi bhagavantha resides in eyes.

There is a half smile on the face of Govinda (which means main deity described by the Shruthies) which is capable of giving the greatest gift of the coveted Moksha – the abode of eternal bliss, which is full and without any comparison. Such a smile should be contemplated.
