Dwadasha Stotra

Dwadasha stothra 3 : Verse 8

Vishwam vishawakaram vande vishwavasaya prapitharaaham|

Nanaroopam ajam nithyam  vishwa athmanam   prajapathim||8||

Vishwam –

  • The one who controls our wakeful state
  • Krishna shows vishwa roopa to Arjuna in Geethe.
  • The one who is antaryami of all chetana and jada. (To enter – vishati iti vishwa)
  • The one who gives perception of the palpable world.
  • The one who is anatrayami of Vaayu.
  • Upanishad says “Vishwaha hiranyagrabhaha”- Antaryami of Chaturmukha Brahma.
  • Vi+shwam – unique from everything and complete by itself ( sath, chit, ananda roopa)

Sham – felicity, happiness        Vam – Knowledge

  • Vi – Pakshi (Garuda) – one who travels on Garuda
  • Vi – Knowledge of Vedas – For which Garuda is abhimani devatha
  • Visheshena shwayate – shviGathi vrudyoho – to grow/to go – one who is present everywhere
  • Visheshena vardatte – one who is perfect , complete tattva

Vishawakaram

  • Akara –Knowledge  Repository – shelter for the universe – “ Vishawakaram gaganasadrusham”
  • Everything gets a unique shape because Narayana is present in everything in a unique way.
  • Aa kriyate – One who is called by different words. Every word is epithet of God.
  • Aa krothi – One who made Brahma and Vaayu as Jeeva utthamas (prime among Jeevas).

Vishwavasaya prapitharaaham – He is Great- Grandfather of the world.

Nanaroopam ajam nithyam  –

Nanaroopam-

Ekaroopa – Swaroopa is not different in each being.

Eg: He is present inside a shastragna vipra as a brahmana, inside a cow in gauroopa, inside elephant as hastini roopa, inside dog as shuni roopa, inside a person who eats dog meat as Shavapaka roopa. Bimba roopa is reflected as prathibimba and it gives different nature to different beings. Hence he is Nanaroopa.

Narayana panditacharya says “Paramatamane sathatham ekaroopine dasharoopine shatha sashraroopine avikarine suptam anantharoopine samasthanave namah” ||

He is ekaroopa, but dorns 10, 100, 1000 roopas , yet is flawless, and all his roopas are sath,chith,ananda roopa.

ajam nithyam  – He is devoid of all flaws because he is not bound by cycle of birth and death.

Vishwa athmanam  prajapathim –

   Vishwa athmanam  –

  • Vishwa apnothe iti vishwa – He is inside the universe
  • vishwam adatte – One who is inside universe and controls it
  • Vishwam arthi iti vishwaha – One who destroys the universe and thereby protects it by cutting off unwanted growth

  Prajapathi – He is protector of all Jeevas.

  Pragya – He is the cause of Pragya shakti. Pragya is the state of wisdom which is higher than the      knowledge obtained by reasoning and inference.
