Dwadasha stothra 5: Verse 3
sa hi vishvasRujO vibhushaMbhu purandaraPurvaMukhan aparAnaparan |
sRujatIDyatamOvati haNti nijaM padamApayati praNatAn swadhiyA ||3||
sa hi – He is
vishvasRujO – The one who created the universe, Brahma and other gods
Vibhu – The one because of whom the world has so much variety
Vi – Paramatma
Vi+Bhu – the one who took birth from Narayana – ChaturMukha, Saraswathi
Vibhu – The one who is present everywhere – Vaayu, Bharathi (chaturmukha, Vaayu – 3rd kakshe. Bharathi, Saraswathi – 4th kakshe)
Shambhu – Sham shariram Bhavayati iti shambhu
Sha – Body
Shambhu – one who stays inside our body, controls it (sharira abhimani) and gives it experience of felicity (sukha) and grief (Dukha).
TantraSaraSangraha elucidates “Bhogayanam tanam shariram” – One which is asylum for experiencing felicity and grief is sharira.
Shambavati – sharira purusha – shiva – annamaya kosha niyamaka Shakti
- Felicity can be experienced only when body has prana, i.e. when pranamaya kosha is active – shesha is niyamaka Shakti for pranamaya kosha
- Felicity is truly felt when we have knowledge i.e. through veda purusha garuda who gives capacity to understand. (Garuda, Shesha, Rudra are in 5th kakshe and their respective counterparts Suparni, Varuni ,Parvati are in 7th kakshe)
puraNdara – Indira, Kama
Indira is called Purandara as he retained demons (asuras) place of living.
Kama is called Purandara as he destroyed his own body when Shiva opened his third eye

PurandharaPurva – From 8th to 15th kakshe
9th kakshe – aham prana – it controls movement, gives awareness about self – Releases CO2 from body to environment
10th Kakshe – Shashi (Indira’s wife), Rathi(Kama’s wife), aniruddha (kama’s son), Swayambhu manu, BrihaspatiAcharya(deva purohit) ,Dakshaprajapati
11th kakshe – Pravaha vaayu – bhootabhimani – controls air in the environment – sends oxygen into the body
12th kakshe – Yama, Surya, Chandra, Manavi (Swayambhu manu’s wife)
13th kakshe – Varuna
14th kakshe – Narada (not included in the devates who are involved in creating the world)
15th Kakshe – Bhrighu, Agni,Prasuti (DakshaPrajapati’s wife)
Mukhan – Agni – He is the face all devates from 8th kakshe to 15th kakshe. Offerings to all Demi-gods are given through Agni.
Aparanaparan sRujatI – Different demigods in different kalpas, Different brahma, vaayu who all partake in creating the universe were created by Narayana.
Idya – Laudation (Stuthi)
IDyatamaha – The one who is worthy of laudation
Avati – After creating the world he also sustains it
Hanti – He destroys everything after its time is complete
nijaM padamApayati – Later he gives Moksha and takes to his own abode
praNatAn swadhiyA – To people who meditate on him
Swam – self
He creates, protects and destroys the gods who are themselves known as creators of the world like Brahma, Shiva, Indra, Surya and others. Those who worship Him with devotion are taken to His own abode (Mukthi). (This is done in every Kalpa).
