AriShadvarga – Kama (desire), Krodha (Anger), Lobha (Avarice) ( As Krishna says in BhagavadGeethe “trividham narka …tasmad tajeyet”) Moha (Infatuation) , Madha (Pride) , Matsara (Jealousy) ( by products of first three vasanas)
These are usually grouped as couplets:
- Kama – Moha
- Krodha – Madha (insult)
- Lobha – Matsara (cribbing when something good happens to others)
Where there is no desire, there can never be anger.
Kama is a physical need for humans. Krodha is unnecessary. According to sashtra – a kami has pardon, but not one who has krodha. A person bereft of lobha gets adjusted to all situations.
To overcome these shadvargas one has to have blessing of prakruthi {lakshmi}. Yet one overcomes these 6 there is one more barrier of ego. The great Rishis also remove sorrow afflicting those who seek their help by prayer. They themselves have won over the six enemies such as Kaama and have become pure without any defects of the body or mind. They meditate on Vishnu with full concentration. All these achievements of the Rishis themselves depend on the side long glance of the eyes of Goddess Lakshmi. Such great capacity in her is itself due to the kind look of Ajitha, the Supreme Being. I offer my prostrations to Him.
