Dwadasha Stotra

Dwadasha Stotra 1 : SriSthuthi Verse 7

Thathpaadapankajamahaasanathaamavaapa
Sharvaadivandyacharano yadapaangalesham
Aashrithya naagapathiranyasurairduraapaam
Shreeryath katakshabalavathyajitham namaami

This verse describes shesha. Shesha is “paadapankajamahaasana” ie a place for Narayana to keep his legs.According to shastras when person who bends his head infront of God, everyone bows to him.

Sarpa – creature which moves forward by crawling (sans no legs)

Naagapathih – sarpa that has hood ( pani naga)

Vinatha – gave birth to abhimani devathe of birds

Kadru – gave birth to abhimani devathe of snakes

Anyasurairduraapaam – no other devathe has got the privilege of being a bed to god.

The great Shesha attained the coveted position of being the bed of the Supreme Being, where His feet rest, and which is unattainable by other gods. Shesha is himself worshipped by other gods including Rudra. Such achievements themselves depend on the side long glance of the eyes of Goddess Lakshmi. Such great capacity in her is itself due to the kind look of Ajitha, the Supreme Being. I offer my prostrations to Him.
