Meaning:
May the following exalted Gods, along with their wives, bless us with auspiciousness, every day:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Brahma, Vaayu
– Rudra, Shesha
– Garuda
– Devendra (Indra)
– Kaama (Manmatha)
– Guru (Bruhaspati)
– Ravi (Sun), Chandra (Moon)
– Varuna (patron god for water, especially Oceans and Seas)
– Anala (aka Agni or Fire)
– Swaayambhuva Manu
– Yama
– Kubera, Ganesha, Ashwini devatas
– Niruti (the guardian of the South West direction), marud gana
– Parjanya, Mitra<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Our scriptures talk of 8 deities guarding the 8 cardinal directions; the verse covers all 8 as shown below. The intent is to pray for auspiciousness from all directions.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  6. \u00a0nirruti\/ Southwest – nirruti\/janardhana,\u00a0<\/li>
  7. \u00a0Vayuvya\/ North West-chandra\/dhanvantri,\u00a0\u00a0kubera\/kapila,\u00a0<\/li>
  8. Eshanya\/ North east\u00a0– pravaha vayu\/ hayagriva,<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Aditi and Kashyapa have 12 sons, out of which the eldest is the Sun god (who has other names like Ravi, Vivasvaan etc). The youngest is Vaamana (the 5th of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu in this manvantara). Some of the others are Indra, Mitra, Varuna, Bhaga, Poosha etc. These 12 are collectively called Adityas (sons of Aditi), but most people associate \u2018Aditya\u2019 with the Sun god. He has blessed mankind with life sustaining heat and light; in today\u2019s world, people also generate electricity from solar energy.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n


    Parjanya is the god regulating rain bearing clouds.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n


    Brahma\u2019s one day is equal to 43,20,000 years. Brahma\u2019s day is divided into 14 manvantaras or periods. Each manvantara has a Manu (Ruler). The first manu was svaayambhuva manu. This is the manu referred to in this verse. Incidentally, we are in the 7th manvantara, with vaivasvat (son of vivasvAn or Sun) as the manu.
